At a meeting in Bolzano in January, the mayors of the municipalities along the Brenner route (Brenner Railway Committee) declared that they were convinced that an instrument such as the Alpine Crossing Exchange was of vital impor-tance. The SVP (South Tyrolean People's Party) will submit a motion, ad-dressed to the Parliament in Rome and the Italian government, to the Parlia-ment of South Tyrol and the Regional Committee South Tyrol/Trentino. The mo-tion demands that a concept for the transfer of freight from road to environmen-tally friendly transport modes is drawn up for sensitive regions such as the Alps. In particular, it should include ideas for the “management of transport infrastruc-tures, and the trading of transit rights". The aim is to elaborate a model for an Alpine Crossing Exchange that can be introduced across the whole of the Alps.
